Flat Roof Repair & Installation Services in Westbury & Surrounding Areas
Flat roofs are popular for all sorts of constructions such as garages, home extensions, sports’ centres, factories, warehouses and so on. Many people seem to view a flat roof as inferior to pitched roofs, but if properly constructed and waterproofed they can last for 20 years or more.
Modern roofing systems using various seamless technologies can guarantee the soundness of a flat roof and are also easy and quick to apply. They leave a smooth, waterproof blemish-free surface which can be utilised as a roof terrace or even turned into a green “living” roof.
The flat roofing technicians at LH Roofing are fully trained and experienced in constructing and covering flat roofs using the most suitable method for the job.
The structure of a flat roof essentially consists of a timber frame with it’s weight supported by joists spanning the width of the building. The frame is topped with a flat timber decking which has to have a slight “fall” or slope, in order for the roof to allow rainwater to run off. If water stands or pools on the roof this could cause leaks. Our professional roofers know how to taper the fall of a flat roof in such a way as to prevent any problems.
Once the timber frame and decking are in place, the flat roof can be insulated and covered in one of a choice of materials.
A great deal of the flat roofing work we do in Wiltshire and in Bath involves replacing worn old felt roofing with new roofing systems that have a longer life-span, such as EPDM rubber roofing or GRP fibreglass roofing. Very often if the felt on a flat roof has degraded badly we recommend replacing the insulation and roof decking before recovering it.
The type of roofing that we recommend for any particular roof depends on the purpose of the building, your budget, the position of the roof and its likely exposure to the weather or other damaging influences. At the heart of our commitment to excellent customer service is our practice of consulting closely with our clients, so we explain all the options and help you make the right decision for the best type of flat roof for your needs.
Modern felt roofing is one option, and probably the cheapest for flat roofing. The new bitumen roofing felts are far more resistant to UV damage and cracking than the old fashioned “pour and roll” felting used to be. Modern felt is laid with blow-torching which melts the felt onto the roof structure, then finished with a coloured or reflective capping sheet.
Another choice for covering a flat roof is asphalt, which is heated then laid on the roof and trowelled into shape before it cools to form a hard surface.
One of the most popular modern flat roofing systems is the single ply EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber membrane system, which is lightweight, highly elastic, and tough with an attractive smooth finish. It can be laid on top of any existing covering, and is easy to install with no heating required.
You could also opt for fibreglass GRP flat roofing, which consists of sheets of fibreglass soaked in roofing resins, applied to the roof decking and allowed to cure.
All of these flat roofing solutions are extremely successful and long-lasting when applied by a professional roofing company such as LH Roofing.
